Shorthanded troops no match for Rangers
Wednesday December 31 2008

BRAMPTON - Brampton Battalion coach Stan Butler called in a few extra reinforcements for its Ontario Hockey League game in Kitchener on Tuesday evening, but it wasn't nearly enough. The troops, who were flawless in November reeling off a 16-game winning streak, have come upon some hard times over the past couple of weeks and Tuesday's contest was no different as they dropped a 6-1 decision to the Rangers- who sit at the bottom of the OHL's Western Conference standings. The Battalion is currently missing five starters from the lineup and that was too much to overcome in Kitchener. With Cody Hodgson (Canada) and Evgeny Grachev (Russia) at the World Junior Hockey Championships, Sam Carrick at the World Under-17 Challenge in British Columbia and defenceman Alexander Eriksson, Ken Peroff and call-up Sam Nyberg nursing injuries, the troops called upon third round draft pick Branden Eden, Cameron Bernier and Vito Carnovale from the Brampton Capitals of the Ontario Junior Hockey League to round out the platoon. All were expected to suit up again on Wednesday (after press deadline) in the New Year's Eve clash with the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors and tonight when the troops travel to Erie. The Battalion got started on the right foot in Kitchener with Matt Duchene netting his 15th of the season from Jason Dale and Kyle Pereira just 3:48 into the contest, but it was all the Battalion faithful would have to cheer about.Julian Cimadamore tied the game for the Rangers two minutes...
