Stop wasting taxpayers cash

I live in Bramalea and do a lot of walking around the area. I'm continually shocked to see the types of public work that is carried out using taxpayer money that is entirely unnecessary.
Regularly, parts of sidewalks are repaired and replaced because there is only one small crack or a tiny heave.
Roads are resurfaced that do not need resurfacing. Two examples are Eastbourne Drive about a year ago, and Festoon Place this year.
Currently there is a large project going on on Folkstone Crescent that is replacing all the concrete curbs. The curbs in this area have nothing wrong with them at all. We are in a 40-year-old neighbourhood, with 40-year-old curbs that are entirely functional and suit the age of the area.
It is hard for me to estimate the cost of this curb replacement, but based upon the number of people working, the number of days they're spending, and the amount of equipment out on the street, I wouldn't be surprised if it was over $200,000. I would love to see The Guardian conduct an investigation into this.
I understand the need to maintain the city, but projects like these are wasteful both monetarily and environmentally. A reasonable person would not be replacing the curbs in front of his house on Folkstone Crescent at his own expense. My conclusion? People employed in public works are not reasonable. We are wasting tax money.
