BRAMPTON - Community-based multicultural agency COSTI Immigrant Services is hosting a free three-week workshop aimed at helping immigrant and visible minority women kick start their careers.
This free, three-week part-time program consists of a series of workshops covering skills assessment, labour market information and trends, personal and professional communication, and understanding employer expectations.
It will also focus on Canadian workplace culture and business etiquette, self-marketing techniques, overview of current interview practices, goal setting, plan-of-action for small business development and pursuing skills training options.
Across the Greater Toronto Area immigrant and visible minority women face numerous challenges in attaining career and personal goal to become productive citizens and successful role models for their families.
In Peel Region, where more than 50 per cent visible minorities are female, there is a pressing need to assist them in reaching their full potential.
Women who are immigrants, members of visible minorities, Aboriginals, and women with disabilities have higher unemployment rates than other women.
The workshops will be conducted at both COSTI Peel locations at 10 Gillingham Drive, Suite 300, in Brampton and 2150 Meadowvale Blvd. Mississauga.
The first group begins on July 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, in Brampton at the intersection of Bovaird Drive and Highway 10, across from Wal-Mart in the RONA Plaza.
To register for the program or for additional information, call 905-459-8855 or send e-mail to wright@costi.org.
