Board of Trade hires policy advisor

BRAMPTON - Determined to be an effective voice for Brampton’s business community, the Brampton Board of Trade announced recently that it has hired on a senior policy advisor to help research issues that matter most to local businesses.
“I look forward to focusing in on the business issues that are important to the members of the Brampton Board of Trade,” said Melanie Currie, the BBOT’s newly appointed senior policy advisor. “Brampton is in the wonderful position of having a robust business community and a healthy local administration, which will allow the city to engage in investment and development even through this period of economic uncertainty.”
Currie has an extensive resume.
Between 2000 and 2007, she was a policy analyst for the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.
In that role, she worked on a range of matters related to entrepreneurial businesses including workplace safety and insurance, taxation, red tape and regulatory reform, environmental legislation and regulations and labour issues.
Currie also worked in Ottawa for Industry Canada developing the programs for incoming trade missions by global investors, and researching prospects for Trade Team Canada (an initiative that brings government and industry together to co-ordinate national trade development planning and activities in key industries) missions abroad in the biotechnology and high-tech sectors.
